MATCHA: The Shanghai Dress (qipao fashion show + DJ Quantum)

Fashion, culture, & art in a single dress

MATCHA: The Shanghai Dress
Thursday, June 3, 5:00-9:00 pm
Asian Art Museum
ONLY $10 (includes admission to Shanghai)

Inspired by the stylish, sophisticated form-fitting qipao dress that emerged in 1920s Shanghai, this MATCHA showcases the work of designer Jane Zhu. She has studied the art of qipao patternmaking and construction from master tailors, and is celebrated in Shanghai and New York for her modern, made-to-order luxury qipao. Zhu has been featured in Vogue, Elle China, Newsweek, and more. She will share her designs in a fashion show and give a talk on the history and craftsmanship of these iconic dresses. See her elegant creations on models, and some of her more prized pieces up close and personal on display. Everyone is encouraged to show up in their finest qipao!

Make your own traditional Chinese button or design a ready-to-wear pinback button, engage a docent in Shanghai, hang out with friends over cocktails, and enjoy music spun by the energizing DJ Quantum! Participate in a free raffle drawing for prizes such as Lonely Planet books and a Namu restaurant gift certificate. After the event, please fill out a survey letting us know your feedback (you could win a museum membership)!
