Celebrate Hyphen's tenth anniversary with Issue 25, featuring the legendary George Takei.
Slant: Bold Asian American Images is an annual short film festival in Houston, established by Hyphen’s own founding editor, Melissa Hung.
Slant showcases an eclectic mix of the best short films made by aspiring, emerging and mid-career Asian American artists. Through this film festival, DVDS and performances, the festival provides a fresh perspective on the Asian American experience. One of the longest-running festivals in Texas devoted to Asian American film and video art, the festival has screened more than a hundred films, many of them showing in Texas for the first time.
From the beginning, Slant has made its home at the Aurora Picture Show, a nonprofit microcinema. In presenting this festival, Aurora participates in exploring the power of moving image in crafting identity and community.
Join Melissa and Slant for another year of great films and performances! The 10th anniversary of Slant runs May 21 to 23, 2010. The festival kicks off with a screening of the latest in Asian American short films. The centerpiece showcase is a special evening of live performances with film, featuring writer Neelanjana Banerjee and musicians Robin Sukhadia and Goh Nakamura. Slant wraps with a free salon led by award-winning filmmaker PJ Raval.
