March & Vigil for Private Danny Chen
Join APAs for Progress New York Chapter (APAP-NY) at the march
and vigil for Private Danny Chen to demand a transparent and thorough investigation of his death. Danny was found dead at an American Army base
in Afghanistan on October 3, 2011, but did not die in combat. The Army has
confirmed that Danny suffered violent hazing by superiors right before his
death, and was subject to racial abuse throughout his time
in the Army. The group will meet at the Army Recruiting Center and march to Columbus Park in Manhattan's Chinatown
(on Bayard and Baxter) for a vigil. During the vigil, we will hear from family
members as well as artists and leaders from NYC's APA community. APAP asks that you wear a white band around your arm or head
to show unity during the march. More info here.

Open Call for Asian Heritage Street Celebration Poster Contest Entries

The Asian Heritage Street
Celebration is hosting its annual poster contest in partnership with the Asian
American Women Artists Association, Asian Art Museum, Center for Asian American
Media, and Kearny Street Workshop. Graphic artists are sought to create an
exciting image to become part of the personality for the 8th Annual Asian
Heritage Street Celebration to be held on Saturday May 19, 2012 in front of the
Asian Art Museum, leading up to the Little Saigon District. The
winning artwork will be featured in a wide-scale multi-media marketing campaign
in both the mainstream and Asian Pacific markets in a combination of posters,
postcards, Muni bus ads, BART banners, bus shelters, newspaper ads and in a TV
commercial. The winner will also earn a $500 grand prize. All entries will be
