Dance for a Cause

My Ninja! x The Blended Group have teamed up to present "Dance For a Cause". Come dance the night away to raise money for Culture Shock Los Angeles -- a non-profit group of dancers who use urban dance forms to engage traditionally underserved populations in the arts, and to present these forms with the same dedication and artistry given to classical dance styles. Ching Chong Chinaman

Turning every cliche about Asian American identity on its head, Ching Chong Chinaman introduces  the all-American Wong family: Ed the patriarch loves to golf and mom Grace wants another child; Desdemona obsesses over early admission into Princeton while her brother Upton is focused on World of Warcraft superstardom. To ease the burden of homework and free up more time for training, Upton acquires an indentured servant from China. Life in the Wong household is turned upside down with the arrival of Jinqiang ("Ching Chong"), who harbors his own American dreams. Tuesday November 29th to Friday December 2nd -- Philadelphia

We Write South Philly High

Over the past year, students from South Philadelphia High School have been working with Teaching Artists from Philadelphia Young Playwrights, The Wilma Theater, and 1812 Productions to create, produce, and perform an original piece of theater reflecting the many voices of the high school’s students. We Write South Philly High is the product of three semester-long residencies in which more than 50 students studied acting and playwriting while examining the various layers of identity that make up the High School’s past and present. The multi-disciplinary production features real-life accounts of students, staff, and alumni, collected through interviews conducted by the students themselves. Also featuring the monologue Thoughts Can Fly and the play On The Way by winners of the 2010 Young Voices High School Monologue Festival and Young Playwrights’ Annual Playwriting Festival. CAPAA and ACLF Accepting Applications for Fellowship Program -- Washington State

The Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA) and the Asian Pacific Islander Community Leadership Foundation (ACLF) have launched a fellowship for college juniors, seniors, and graduate students to build their legislative and public policy analysis skills on issues affecting the APA community. Individuals selected will gain job experience and an inside look at the government while building leadership skills. Fellows will be placed in the agency’s Olympia office. Upon completing the Fellowship, the Fellow, if eligible, will participate in ACLF’s Community Leaders Program, which further develops leadership skills through community-based curriculum, team-building and mentoring/networking opportunities.
