The Kickstarter Campaign for Documentary 'Breathin': The Eddy Zheng Story'

September 15, 2011

With 16 days left to go in their Kickstarter campaign, the producers of documentary Breathin': The Eddy Zheng Story -- Ben Wang, Christine Kwon, and Deann Borshay-Liem -- are seeking support to reach their $15,000 budget goal and to bring to the screen Zheng's personal account of entering the prison system as a teenager, becoming a community activist during and after decades of imprisonment, and the deportation risk he now faces.

Hyphen profiled Zheng in Issue 14 in a feature on incarcerated Asian Americans and many from the Bay Area are familiar with Zheng's active work in the community here. From the producers: "Using intimate interviews with Eddy and his family, friends and colleagues, the film aims to draw viewers into Eddy's world and challenge assumptions they may have about immigrants, prisoners, and deportees."

Visit the film's Kickstarter page to learn more about the film, view trailers, and donate. Email eddyzhengstory [at] gmail.com for more info.

[Full disclosure: Our features editor Momo Chang is part of the Breathin' production team].
