Join filmmaker and professor Vivek Bald as he presents a series of British punk and dub music archives from the late 1970s and early 1980s, which influenced his documentary Mutiny: Asians Storm British Music. Screening will include Bald's film, which charts the rise of South Asian music in 1990s Britain, focusing on two decades of musical cross-pollination and political struggle that gave rise to groups like Asian Dub Foundation, Talvin Singh, and State of Bengal. Co-sponsored by NYU Program for Asian Pacific American Studies and 3rd i.

An Evening with Hwang Sok-Yong
The recipient of Korea's highest literary prize, Hwang Sok-Yong is one of the world's most famous novelists. A dissident and former laborer, Hwang served prison time after an unsanctioned visit to North Korea, and was later pardoned by the South Korean president in 1998. Hwang recently published an autobiographical novel, The Old Garden. The Asian American Writers' Workshop, HeyKorean, The Korea Literature Translation Institute, and Seven Stories Press will host a reading and Q & A with the author.

This month's Matcha -- Asian Art Museum's interactive arts mixer -- celebrates Loi Krathong, Thailand's annual river festival of lights. Featuring classical dance and live ensemble music by the Thai Cultural Center, a puppet performance by Mandalay Marionettes Theatre (from Burma), and an opportunity to create a river offering, learn about the mythical Thai Bird people, and sample Burmese tea leaf salad. University of Texas Study on Ethnic Differences in Attitudes Towards Physical Activity
The ethnic composition in the US is changing and it is extremely important that medical professionals understand the cultural differences in physical activity between women of different ethnic backgrounds. Dr. Eun-Ok Im of the University of Texas' Ethnic Specific Midlife Womens' Attitudes Toward Physical Activity (eMAPA) is conducting a study and needs help from Asian American women! You are eligible for this study if you are a woman between the ages of 40-60 years old. It can be completed in under 30 minutes online and you will receive a $ 10 Target gift card.

Defending Asian American Voting Rights -- NYC
The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) and Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) are in need of volunteer attorneys on Tuesday November 3rd to be trained on voting rights law (with CLE credits), inspecting poll sites, observing poll worker conduct, and surveying voters on Election Day. Volunteers are also needed to administer a multilingual survey and document problems on Election Day. TTo sign up as a volunteer and for a training schedule, go here.
