"Ping Pong Playa" Gets a Distributor
From Hollywood Reporter, IFC Films -- the film distribution company that brought us indie favorites like "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and "Transamerica" -- just bought the theatrical rights to Jessica Yu's sports comedy "Ping Pong Playa," most recently screened at the New York Asian American International Film Festival.
IFC's website says the film will begin screening at the NY IFC Center in September.
Hopefully, "Ping Pong Playa" will branch out to more theaters, even if it is limited to the art-house circuit. Distribution is distribution in my eyes; just ask all the filmmakers who see their work go straight to DVD. Congrats to Yu (an Oscar winner and San Francisco Bay Area native to boot) and the cast!

Cool news and glad to see it's getting picked up.
i saw this movie at aaiff closing night and it was HILARIOUS. i really, really enjoyed it. there were so many details about this movie that were right on. for example, the sibling love-hate relationship. parents "favoring" one over the other, but still having love and hope for the other child. the obnoxiousness, a fresh female protag. anyway, i hear it's opening on september 1st in some of the major cities so be sure to catch it!
