Yul Kwon Denied in North Beach

SFGate is currently leading with a big, fat pic of Yul Kwon, the subject of CW Nevius's column about Kwon and his buddies trying to open a Red Mango yogurt shop in North Beach.

Apparently they were in, but then the North Beach Chamber of commerce got wind of the Korean chain's spreading popularity across the nation, meaning it was too corporate for the neighborhood. If you remember from Lisa's post months ago about Koreans in the media, Red Mango is supposedly similar to the crack-like Pinkberry that's taken over Los Angeles. But it seems like Yul and his buddies are taking this in stride and not trying to bribe Ed Jew's replacement. Actually, they would have to bribe Aaron Peskin, who said: "It doesn't matter if he's the Shah of Iran or the winner of 'Survivor.' The law's the law's the law."

Anyway, what I found most interesting is that Yul is newsworthy enough to make headlines with a little business deal like this. The column also mentions Yul's possible run for Tom Lantos' seat in Congress.

Anyway, forget North Beach, Yul -- the Mission is the best place for Red Mango.
